Qianjiang New Town

Hangzhou’s Qianjiang New Town is being developed into a new central business district. Citizen Center 市民中心: Hangzhou Library

Open to the public, the Hangzhou Library has several wings which are beautifully designed with spacious layouts, tastefully furnished and equipped with state-of-the-art audio-visual technology. In an environment conducive to study and research, bookshelves cover the walls of the library.

There are 2,000 study areas equipped with personal reading lamps, power supplies and free Wi-Fi coverage. In the foreign language section, reading areas are furnished with western taste, completed with an artificial fireplace to create a comfortable, relaxing environment.

The library boasts four special rooms for movies and musical appreciation, two general audio-visual rooms, a café, a children’s section, a calligraphy room, etc. It has a wide collection of music, magazines, newspapers and books that range from fiction to research purposes, reference works, traditional Chinese books and English books. The library also organizes activities such as talks by guest speakers, community activities, performances, and a special guest room for important visitors.

Borrowing: Foreigners are required to bring their passport along to apply for a library card which is issued on the day itself. A deposit of 100 yuan (US$14.65) is needed for the library card which allows up to six books on loan at one time for a period of 30 days. If foreigners are working for a local company, they can produce the company letter and passport to apply for the library card with no need to place a deposit.
