Fancy pedestrian overpass put to use

A pedestrian overpass at the crossroad of Qingchun Road E. and Xintang Road in Jianggan District has been put into service. It has nine pillars resembling tree trunks and has four shelters for people to take cover from rain or a scotching sun. The shelters have sprayers to cool people with a mist of water.

US girl adopted from Xiaoshan revisits her birthplace

Chinese-American Xiao Feng (left) holds a cardboard that says "We're back 21 years later" with her foster mother at the gate of Xiaoshan Social Welfare Center on Friday. The girl was sent to the center a few days after birth and was adopted by her American mom in 1995. She is now a student of the University of North Georgia. The center was originally located on Gaole Road and was moved to its current address on Xiaojin Road in 2014. Xiao Feng and her mom were invited by the China Center for Children's Welfare and Adoption to visit Beijing in mid-June. Minister of Civil Affairs Li Liguo welcomed the 60 American families and their 91 children adopted from China. Statistics show that more than 60,000 Chinese orphans have been adopted by American families, most of them girls.
