City endures hottest day on record

Hangzhou broke its hottest day record again yesterday when the mercury shot up to 41.2 degrees Celsius at 3:38pm.

The city has broken the temperature record four times this summer. The previous record was set on Tuesday when the temperature reached 41 degrees.

Across the province of Zhejiang, Fenghua in Ningbo City recorded a temperature of 43.5 degrees Celsius yesterday, the highest temperature in the history of Zhejiang Province.

Yesterday was Liqiu, the start of autumn according to the Chinese lunar calendar. However, the official arrival of autumn will not be announced until the average temperature is below 22 degrees for five straight days.
