Though the overall water quality improved 5.3 percent in Zhejiang Province this year, that of Hangzhou declined, according to a report released yesterday by the Zhejiang Environmental Protection Bureau.
Hangzhou is the only city in the province with deteriorating water quality. Ningbo, Jiaxing, Huzhou, Jinhua and Taizhou showed improving water quality, while other cities showed no change from last year.
Tests reveal that only 52.6 percent of water samples collected in Hangzhou met the quality standards, compared with 100 percent for the cities of Shaoxing, Quzhou, Zhoushan and Lishui.
Zhoushan, Lishui and Ningbo also took top three spots in air quality test, while Hangzhou ranked ninth in the province. Jinhua had the worst air quality, according to the report.
