Hangzhou is trying to become a global destination for leisure travelers based on local cultural resources and big data technology.
In the first half of the year, Hangzhou received 74.24 million domestic and foreign visitors, up 14.45 percent year-on-year. Tourism revenue increased 16.48 percent to 125.8 billion yuan (US$18.9 billion). International arrivals totaled 1.8 million, up 7.22 percent.
Meanwhile, the city launched direct flights to San Francisco, Los Angeles, Sydney, Vancouver and Lisbon and promoted the so-called "tourism +" strategy to turn cultural resources into tourism products.
Big data and VR technologies are used to improve tourist experiences. For example, people can check the number of visitors in a popular scenic spot or heritage site before going there with the help of big data.
