Hangzhou is waiting for the approval of the central government for its second-phase development of intercity traffic infrastructure to speed up transport between Hangzhou and neighboring cities of Ningbo, Wenzhou, Jinhua and Yiwu.
The plan, which passed the appraisal of experts recently, covers 11 rail and highway projects. Hangzhou-Deqing Railway, for example, will have nine stations along its 25-kilometer route, starting from Metro Line 10 station on Xinxing Road.
The 120-kilometer Huzhou-Jiaxing-Hangzhou-Shaoxing Railway will have both elevated and underground sections. It will serve both tourists and commuters.
Two light rails connecting Hangzhou with Anji, Fuyang with Tonglu will be built as well. Construction of the four rail projects should start before 2022 as soon as the city gets the green light.
The first-phase traffic infrastructure development is still ongoing. It includes four intercity rails from central Hangzhou to Fuyang, Lin'an, Haining and Keqiao. All will be completed and put into service in 2021.
