HANGZHOU Party Secretary Huang Kunming yesterday called the completion of a tunnel dug between Yuhang High-speed Railway Station and Wengmei Station a "historical moment for metro construction in the city."

This section was the last section of Hangzhou's Metro Line 1, paving the way for the opening of the line before October this year.

With 31 stations, the first phase of Metro Line 1 is 48 kilometers long. The line links high-speed railway stations, long-haul bus stations, and the central business district on both sides of the Qiantang River.

The second round of test runs on Hangzhou's first metro line will start in June. The first test run was carried out last year.

The coming test runs will not be open to the public. Hangzhou's metro operator said trial operations will be open to public in October. Once operational it will be Zhejiang Province's first metro line.
